Blüthner style VII with original signed receipt by Julius Blüthner

Blüthner style VII with original signed receipt by Julius Blüthner

We are pleased to have in our possession and for sale a magnificent Blüthner Style VII with the original signed receipt by the founder of Blüthner Piano’s himself Julius Blüthner.

Julius Blüthner founded Blüthners Pianos in 1853, in Leipzig, Saxony. His endeavour to build pianos was started by himself and three other craftsman. A deeply religious man, he spoke the words that would shape his company for over 160 years “May God Prevail”.

By the 1900’s Blüthner had become the largest piano manufacture in Germany producing 5,000 instruments a year. Innovations and developments such as the Aliquot String; a fourth string that vibrated sympathetically that was tuned in unison as well as the cylindrical soundboard and angle cut hammers, created a unique voice and resonance for the Blüthner instrument. (Wikipedia)

The Blüthner Style VII is an impressive instrument and an ideal size at 6”3’ for any home. The casework is finished in satin black which is truly stunning and radiates class. The piano has been fully rebuilt from the bottom up with a new Leverett soundboard, new wrest plank, frame re-guild, the original patent Blüthner action and keys has been fully overhauled and rebuilt, new abel hammers, new strings, new felts damper felts and leathers, new bolts, all brass work cleaned buffed and lacquered, all moving parts either replaced or overhauled. And finally the piano comes with the original sign receipt in a frame from the owner himself Julius Blüthner.

You could own this piece of history for £29,995

(includes VAT, a free stool, piano cover & key cover, and the Leverett 5 year guarantee, T’s & C’s apply)

Paul McCartney’s – C’mon People

Paul McCartney’s – C’mon People

In 1993 Colin Leverett was approached by ex 10cc member Kevin Godley who directed the music video for Paul McCartney’s C’mon People. Colin was asked to advise on the best order to deconstruct a piano and then reconstruct it. During the music video Paul McCartney sings and plays a Steinway the piano while workmen speedily deconstruct it and rebuild it around him.

The song was part of Paul McCartney’s album ‘Off The Ground’ and reached number 41 in the UK Chart singles. C’mon People became a staple part of his world tour in 1993.

With over 30 years in the trade myself and the last person to serve a full apprenticeship at the only major workshop in the UK, my concerns do grow daily to where the next generation of Piano Technicians will come from ? little or no interest from school leavers over the last 10 years leaves me wondering where this skill set will eventually go. I never intended to become a piano technician but I guess this trade runs through our family veins, with 2 generations of Leverett’s maintaing the highest quality of piano craftmanship possible.

I feel extremely lucky and honoured to have served under my father Colin Leverett and his brother Derek Leverett. Honing my skills and passing on techniques that would have been lost. I to will one day pass these onto my son’s, I hope they take them to heart.

I heard once that if you find a carrier you love, you will never have to work another day again !!! Thank you dad x

Our Story

In September 2015 Piano Restorations commissioned Rocket Communications to produce a promotional video expressing the history, life and craftsmanship of the company. We wanted to engage with the public and express the passion, skill and time that is taken to rebuild such beautiful instruments. The video shows the process of rebuilding an exquisite Blüthner Jubilee from the day it arrives to the fully rebuilt piano. It also features concert pianist Joseph Fleetwood who composed the music on the video “Moon Light over the River Tay”
